Tag Info

I've entered tag data with The Godfather (great app); data comming from AMG (allmusic.com) and Lyrics. I would appriciate if these data can be viewed. One can think of:
Composer
Style
Lyrics
Mood
People
Comment
Some of these might be interested to filter on (eg Mood) and others to search for (eg People).

Thanks anyway for this neat jukebox, eeeh ampache is more than that,

Frank

Re: Tag Info

How do people feel about these tags? I don't want to make ampache to cluttered, however it's important to have all of the info possible in the interface....

Re: Tag Info

The only one I'd ever look at is Lyrics, but it's so big.  Maybe if it opened a pop-up or a track details page out of the main search / play worlflow?

Re: Tag Info

I used http://www.netjuke.org/ for years now. And I was missing some TAG info in that app. I got interested in ampache by the nicer interface (with a.o. Album art). For myself I make use the Mood to copy files to my mp3 player (only songs suited for running). I know my collegaes (I have installed ampache in an intranet environment) search for their favorite artists ; and that one is already good covered.

I summed up some tag info that might be of interest. But lyrics is for me the most important.  The remarkts of RosenSama could be tackled by creating a memo which is not visible when there are no lyrics available.

Please don't make pop-ups. Think about the google bars and Firefox (and the  new MSIE). I know you can disable the anti-popup feature, but the user have to take action.

Re: Tag Info

Please don't add any additional tags...

But if you have to, make them user-configurable. I don't want to have empty tags displayed and even more I don't want to add "mood", "comment" .... tags to all my files.

In my opinion ampache already is a bit too cluttered with "Song title", "Artist", "Album", "Track", ..., "Action". On my 1280x1024 screen the "Song title" isn't fully displayed most of the time.
Adding more tags wouldn't make this situation any better.

Re: Tag Info

Hmm I think smichaelis has a very good point what about something like

simple, normal & detailed "View" user level preference

simple would contain
- Song Title
- Artist
- Album
- Play Links

normal
(what there is currently)

detailed
- Everything and the kitchen sink...

Re: Tag Info

I'm just a newbie with ampache, but I agree with smichaelis. However I would prefer it to make it customisable (by user/administrator). Per item you could select whether to show it.  Maybe the same counts for the current home screen:  I can imagine the Additions blocks, but the popular blocks? The general stats block could be placed under the Stats submenu. But this is personal. Others have other views.

But like I said, I just installed the software and don't know all the features. Eg. I see here a "Now Playing" but it is always empty here (I'm using the Stream function).

Something is not what I would have expected. When I click on Artist and select one from the list I see the albums from that artist, not the songs.

Re: Tag Info

how nice would it be to have full control over the id3 info, not only choose what to display, but have full control to change info for an album, all at once rather than one at a time.

Great Software
Love it =)

Re: Tag Info

I think for the user to be able to change what they see, for example on the front page if they don't what to see the top 10 albums or artists, they could trun them off.  I think, the idea of simple, normal & detailed "View" is good for the albums and arist pages.

Re: Tag Info

I'm the same opinion as smichaelis.

Comment is typically the first thing i remove inside the tag when cleaning it up. After year was inserted to the database i dont' miss anything.

btw, i like to sort the albums descending (hope thats right, the oldest one first).

I have two cataloges with '%C/%a/%y/%A' as sort pattern. Sometimes after loading the first catalog, everything is fine. After loading the second catalog (same settings) the sort order is ascending.
After deleting the two catalogs and doing the same thing again, it's working. strange behaviour. Something wrong with my sort pattern?

greetings

Re: Tag Info

I was finally able to get Jinzora's Beta 2 working tonight.  It is changing my mind about more info.  It really is great to automatically fetch AMG info on artists and albums along with lyrics, just like you already do for Amazon art.

I like how it displays the first few sentences of the AMG data by default, but makes you open a pop up for lyrics or the full AMG link.

Re: Tag Info

Here's my 2 cents.

1st. I don't think it is very common to click on a track name wanting to play only a single file.  At least my use of Ampache (and previously Andromeda) is to set up a play list and listen.  It makes sense to me to have at least a config option that would allow clicking on a track to either play it or go to a details page that would show all tag info.

2nd. I think tags like Genre, Mood and Tempo would be great categories to browse by.  I know other people have mentioned this, but that is the only thing I miss about Andromeda.  The display was however I organized it so I could group my albums into Genre folders and they would display that way.  One obvious advantage of Ampache is the ability to view the info more than one way (and that you don't have to generate the list from the file structure every time you pull up the page <grin>).

3rd.  I love Ampache. period.

I do this all the time.  I set Winamp to enqueue by default and I can build a playlist on the fly in Winamp, not Ampache by clicking on songs one at a time.  It's currently so much easier to manipulate playlists within Winamp than Ampache and I rarley want to save the list once I'm done, anyways.

Re: Tag Info

That is a good point!  Still, it would be a nice option (on or off).  I was also thinking it would be really cool to have song details available in tandem with the "Now Playing" feature.  I have a tendancy to leave Ampache open and minimized...it would be nice to be able to click on a song I'm listening to and see all of the details.  I am putting the AMG reviews in all of my album tags so there actually would be something interesting there. Similarly, it would be cool to be able to toggle between comments and lyrics on the details page.

Now, to enqueue or not enqueue in winamp.  That is the question for me!
